Kindergarten Teacher, Malea Matheny, at Leila P. Cowart Elementary is the SEL Guiding Principles Engagement Superstar. Engagement drives the students learning experience and Matheny meets students where they are everyday.
She is very intentional about creating lessons in which all students can actively participate in the learning. You can go into her classroom any time and see children working together, listening actively, and socializing while learning. Matheny also incorporates brain breaks and breathing activities in her classroom. This really brings a positive light to her class and makes all students feel welcomed.
