Over the summer site coordinator Pamela Lee had the pleasure of organizing a SEL adult field trip for the Dallas Park and Rec PSELI sites. Site coordinators, program assistants and Dallas Park and Rec administrators participated in team building activities which allowed each team to reconnect with each other and take a deeper dive into SEL adult practices. To connect they indulged in rounds of bowling and Escapology at Shenaniganz, in Rockwall TX.
As an opener, staff was invited to identify two self care practices and asked to commit to continuing or enhancing those practices. They were also asked to respond to a Rethink card, a set of 56 questions to encourage compassion, shift perspective and build connections. This activity really allowed the staff to open up and learn more about themselves. Each card targeted one of four areas of life and was used to get people to think and talk about who they are, what they like and how they interact with the world around them.
The staff also created fulfilling self love notes using their favorite candy bars. This activity served as a reminder to love themselves. Each attendee was also gifted with an adult coloring book designed to promote relaxation and decrease stress.
Overall, this was a great step in helping staff to create an emotionally balanced, mindful and compassionate way of living. We wish to continue these adult practices throughout the year. SEL really works!!!
