This month’s SEL Guiding Principles Superstar is Martin Weiss Elementary Custodian, Mr. Raul Chairez, also known as “Mr. C.” He recently went out of his way to help a Dallas ISD Site Coordinator, Keli London, when her Professional Development cart toppled over outside. The saddest part of that incident was that her ice-cold Coca-Cola spilled all over the sidewalk.
Instead of laughing hysterically, Mr. C came over to assist, helped reorganize the materials and escorted her inside the building. He then brought her a cold soda from his own stash. She appreciates how welcoming and caring Mr. C was and, the extra measure of assistance given. It goes to show that sometimes going out of our way can be the start of a new friendship.
